What an AC Not Cooling Call Involves
We start where the symptom points. A technician confirms the thermostat is actually calling for cooling, then checks whether the indoor blower and the outdoor unit are both running. From there we measure temperature split across the coil, look at airflow, and check refrigerant pressures with gauges. Warm air has a short list of usual causes: restricted airflow, a failed capacitor or contactor, a frozen evaporator coil, low refrigerant from a leak, or a compressor that is no longer pumping. We tell you which one it is before we touch anything.

Why is my AC running constantly but not cooling the house?
Usually airflow or heat rejection. A clogged filter, an iced evaporator coil, or a condenser coil packed with debris will all keep the system running without cooling. Low refrigerant does the same thing.
Should I turn the system off while I wait?
Yes, switch it off. If the coil has frozen, running it longer can damage the compressor, and shutting down lets the ice melt so the technician can see what is actually happening.
Can ice on the lines cause warm air?
Ice on the refrigerant line or coil blocks airflow completely, so the vents blow warm. It points to restricted airflow or low refrigerant, both of which need a technician to diagnose properly.
