Heat Pump Repair — Book a Visit Today

We repair heat pumps for homeowners across Florida, whether the system has stopped heating, is stuck in defrost, or the dual-fuel changeover is fighting itself. Heat pumps run nearly year round here, so the parts that fail are usually the reversing valve, the defrost board or sensor, a contactor, a capacitor, a low refrigerant charge from a leak, or a clogged condensate line that trips a safety switch. A visit starts with what you noticed, then we check the thermostat call, the outdoor unit, electrical readings, airflow and refrigerant pressures, and we tell you what is failing and what the repair involves before we start. Call us and describe what the system is doing, and we will schedule the visit.

The heat pump symptoms we hear most

  • The air coming out feels cool when I ask for heat Reversing valve stuck in cooling, or a failed valve solenoid
  • The outdoor unit is covered in ice and stays that way Defrost control board, defrost sensor or low airflow across the coil
  • It runs constantly and never satisfies the thermostat Refrigerant leak, dirty coil or an undersized call from a miswired thermostat
  • The backup heat runs all the time, even on mild days Dual-fuel changeover setting, outdoor sensor fault or thermostat staging
  • It hums or clicks outside but the fan never spins Failed capacitor, contactor or motor winding

People call this heat pump repair or heat pump service. Same visit, same written quote, same technician.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Check the thermostat: fresh batteries, set to heat, and the temperature set well above the room reading.
  • 2Look for a tripped breaker at the panel for the air handler and the outdoor unit, and reset it once only.
  • 3Change the air filter if it is grey or loaded. Restricted airflow causes icing and short cycling.
  • 4Clear leaves, grass clippings, mulch and stored items back from the outdoor unit so air can move through the coil.

Heat Pump Repair — quick answers

Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in heating mode?

Usually the reversing valve is stuck in cooling or its solenoid has failed, though a low refrigerant charge or a thermostat wiring fault can do the same. We test the valve, the control signal and the pressures, then tell you which part is at fault.

Is ice on the outdoor unit normal?

A light frost that clears during a defrost cycle is normal. A thick ice shell that never melts is not. That points to a defrost board, a bad sensor, a stuck reversing valve or restricted airflow, and it needs a repair before the coil is damaged.

What is a defrost cycle problem?

The heat pump briefly reverses to melt frost off the outdoor coil. If the board, sensor or timer fails, the unit either never defrosts and ices over, or defrosts constantly and never heats the house. Both are repairable at the control level.

What does dual-fuel repair involve?

A dual-fuel system pairs a heat pump with a furnace and switches between them at a set outdoor temperature. Most complaints trace to the changeover setting, the outdoor sensor or the staging wiring. We verify the switchover point and the control logic, then correct it.

Should I repair or replace an older heat pump?

It depends on the failed part, the age of the system and whether refrigerant is leaking from the coil. We give you the repair in front of us and what else is showing wear, so you can decide rather than guess. No pressure either way.

Why does my heat pump run all day without warming up?

Long run times usually mean lost capacity: a refrigerant leak, a dirty outdoor coil, a failing compressor or a defrost fault. Change the filter first, then call us. Running a starved system for weeks tends to turn a small repair into a large one.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a breaker that keeps tripping, water stains on the ceiling. That detail helps us bring the right parts.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, refrigerant performance, airflow and the condensate line. We find the actual cause instead of swapping parts and hoping the problem stays away.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the repair

We explain what failed, what it takes to fix it, and how long the part is likely to last. Nothing gets replaced until you say go, and we test the system before leaving.

Why homeowners call us

  • Built for the salt airCoastal Florida is hard on outdoor equipment. Coils corrode, contactors pit, fan motors seize early. We look for that damage during every air conditioning repair so a small failure does not take the whole system down.
  • Condensate lines we actually clearBy late summer, drain lines clog with algae and shut systems off on the float switch. We clear the line, check the pan and the safety switch, and show you what caused the backup.
  • Heating tooCold snaps still arrive. We do heating repair and heater repair on heat pumps, strip heat and furnace repair where homes have one, so the system works in January as well as August.
  • Plain talk about older systemsIf a repair makes sense, we repair it. If a unit is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say that too and lay out the options. You decide, not us.
  • All major brands, gas & electricEvery major HVAC brand, gas and electric, handled by an independent crew.
  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
