What a smart thermostat installation involves
We start at the wall and at the equipment, because the thermostat is only half the job. We pull the old control, photograph and label the existing wires, then confirm the system needs a common wire for constant power. Many older Florida homes were wired for cooling only and never had one run. If yours is missing, we either add the conductor or install an adapter at the air handler. Then we mount the new plate level, connect the wiring, set the system type and run a full test in cooling and heat mode.
What we check and set up
We verify the thermostat is talking to the right stages of your equipment, so a two stage system does not get run as single stage. We check the fan mode, the heat pump changeover if you have one, and the auxiliary heat lockout so electric strips are not firing on a mild morning. We connect the unit to your home Wi-Fi, walk you through the app, and set a starting schedule based on when the house is actually occupied. We also confirm the temperature reading at the wall matches a probe measurement.
How we decide it is the right call
A smart thermostat solves control problems, not mechanical ones. If your AC is running long and never satisfying, that is usually low refrigerant, a dirty coil or a duct issue, and a new control will not touch it. We check static pressure, filter condition and the temperature split before we recommend anything. When the equipment is sound and the complaint is uneven scheduling, poor humidity control or no remote access, a smart thermostat earns its place. If we find something else, we say so and quote the air conditioning repair instead.

Will a smart thermostat work with my heat pump?
Usually yes, but the setup matters. Heat pumps need the reversing valve and auxiliary heat configured correctly, or the strips run when they should not. We set that during installation and test both modes before we leave.
What if my house has no common wire?
That is common in older cooling only wiring here. We either run a new conductor to the air handler or install a power adapter at the board. We confirm which is possible before we start the work.
Can I keep using a schedule if the Wi-Fi drops?
Yes. The schedule lives in the thermostat itself, so your heating and cooling keeps running on it. You lose remote access and app alerts until the network comes back, but the equipment still cycles normally.
